Thanks to ‘TELEMEDICINE’, Reaching
the Unreachable, ‘State of the art Health for all’, “healing at a distance’ are
not distant dreams now;but have become realities. Rapid technological advances
in electronics, computer and electro optics have profoundly affected our
everyday lives. The advances in radio-frequency (RF) /microwave technology and
computation techniques, among others have paved the way for exciting new
therapeutic and diagnostic methods through TELEMEDICINE. Telemedicine
circumvents geography and the non availability of super specialists in
villages.Connectivity is provided free of cost by Indian Space Research
Organization (ISRO). ISRO network connects many remote hospitals in the country
and also Zambia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Burundi and Nigeria. Microwaves through
this technology of silent medical revolution play a prominent role for
therapeutic applications in such areas such as cardiology, urology, surgery,
ophthalmology, cancer therapy, and others and for diagnostic applications in
areas such as cancer detection, organ imaging and more. Telecare, Tele health,
E-Health, m-Health also comes under this family of Telemedicine which utilizes
information and telecommunication technology to transfermedical information for
diagnosis, therapy and education. Better access to health care, access to
better health care, reduced cost, reduced travel time, improved communication
between doctors and patients, better access to information, transparency,
better resource utilization , state of the art health care reach nook and corner.
Started from Telegraphy, telephony, now the means of telemedicine are dedicated
satellites and digital technologies , Teledermatology , Telenephrology , Teleradiology, Teleneurophysiology , Tele
ophthalmology, Telecardiology, Telepsychiatry, Accident and Emergency, Tele
Obstetrics, Tele ENT and Tele robotics are few of the specialist telemedicine services available
for the mankind.
